Today the desk computer has been replaced with the laptop,as it is compact, portable and mobile. You can take it aboard an airplane, on a ship or anywhere else and go on working etc. The only downside is that it has limited power. After a couple of hours of exploitation the battery gets low and should be re-charged for further exploitation. Laptop producers have not designed a laptop yet which can work 24/7. nonetheless, several significant steps forward have been made to prolong battery's life. There are three major types of laptop batteries. The first laptop batteries to be re-charged were Nickel Cadmium (NiCd). They were reasonably priced and generated lots of energy. Nevertheless, NiCd were heavy and are no longer used these days. Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) laptop batteries are sometimes used in the older generation of laptops. Their output is higher in comparison to NiCd batteries. Moreover, they are believed to be safer and cheaper. The only drawback is that they have the so-called memory effect. If not discharged completely, the NiMH battery will remember it and will put out less energy than it can do. Lithium Ion (LiON) batteries are generally installed in highly advanced makes of laptops. They are lighter than NiCd and NiMH laptop batteries and have not got any memory effect. Nevertheless, they are highly priced. Actually the more expensive a battery is, the longer your laptop will work. Thus, it chiefly depends upon purposes you use your laptop for. Those who travel widely, need an extended energy source. If it is time to replace your laptop battery, remember that it should be compatible with a laptop make, in spite of the fact that lots of batteries nowadays are compatible with all models. Then consider 2 major ratings on it: Volts and Milliamps. The voltage is to be within 10% of the original battery voltage. When purchasing a battery, always seek the one with the biggest Milliamps figure. An external laptop battery is connected to a laptop through an AC adaptor plug consisting of an adapter, a cord plus thirteen other connectors. When you purchase an AC adaptor, assure that it will correspond to the current output and voltage. This information is usually provided on labels of a laptop and on the original adapter. The letter 'V' stands for voltage and 'A' or 'mA' - current output. The voltage figure is to be within 10% of your original adapter voltage. The Amps figure can be higher but should not be lower than the original current output. Another thing to keep in mind is that tip dimensions of an AC adapter and the shape of a battery should be identical to the original ones. Certainly, any device needs appropriate use. Laptop power sources are no exception. Keep and use them observing safety regulations and they will serve you long.
