"There is no place like home", says the proverb. Since home is the place where we are welcome and safe, where our soul rests peacefully, where we raise our children, share our joys and sorrows and spend a good part of our time in. So, to make our home as comfortable as possible we should be knowledgeable about building materials that we use to renovate our houses or to build our dream homes. The most important home building material is surely brick. There is a great choice of brick types which are suitable to build structural or veneer elements of a home. When it comes to durability and stability, the first building material which enters our mind is fiber cement. It is made from cellulose fiber material, silica sand, Portland cement, water and additives. Fibre cement can be used in humid areas. Siding sheets are made from wet fiber, cement and sand. Stucco is used to cover external and internal walls and for adornment of the background of a wall. Though it needs low maintenance, stucco is easy to break or crack and is unsuited for usage in humid areas. Timbre is another all-purpose building material. It is often used for siding of outside walls and shields a house from severe weather conditions. When choosing a building material for siding, it is advisable to take into consideration its appearance, maintenance it will require, insulation value, financial expenditure, sensitivity to weather conditions of the area you live in as well as other parameters. Aluminium g, vinyl, cement and steel can be used for siding. Due to its durability and low maintenance, steel is prefered by many house owners at present. It is fire-resistant and recyclable too. A house cannot be completed without a roof. The top building materials are fiber-cement shingles, wood shakes and asphalt shingles. Fiber-cement shingles are much heavier if compared with asphalt shingles. Nonetheless, the best roofing material is wood shakes due to their generally known insulation. If you have decided to replace your old kitchen counter with a new one, choose among laminate, ceramic tile, wood, solid surfacing and natural stone, with laminate being the broadly used type of countertop material. Keep in mind that selecting suitable building materials for your home ensures that your house will be comfortable and pleasant to live in and will require (it is essential!) low maintenance.
